“Never mind, I’ll find someone like you…”
I FINALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT THIS SONG MEANS
It’s Adele - Someone Like You, a song that most of you probably have known. The first time I heard this song, I wonder, “Why would she want to find someone like him?” Because if she wants to find someone like him, then why would she broke up with him in the first place? Why did she let him go if (it’s clear that) she’s still in love with him?
In my point of view, when you broke up with someone, it’s clearly because you can’t bear it anymore. Maybe one problem here and one problem there, one mistake here and one mistake there, everything that happened that make you think, “I can’t be with him/her anymore. I’ll just go and find someone better than him.”
That’s the point that I don’t understand in this song, isn’t it supposed to be “someone better than you” instead of “someone like you”? Well, raise your hand if you have the same question with me. Or had. Or used to.
But then I realized. Actually, one thing happened one night, and that makes me think about it and finally realizing what this song actually means.
Have you ever fall in love with one person, that he/she is so perfect for you, you’re perfect for him/her, you are perfect for each other, that you think “he/she is the one”? Have you ever think, “I’ll spend the rest of my life with this person, nothing can tear us apart”? You had some little fights, yes you did. And sometimes you had the big ones. But you still think, “I love this person, and I’ll fight till the end for him/her”.
But then, you stumble upon this tiny little thing. It kills your bravery and it’s silently slicing your heart. Both of you. You think, “We’ve been through the big ones, why can’t we survive this one?” Well, because this tiny little thing is actually matters. It matters. One difference that can bring you apart. Let’s have an example… religion? family?
Yes, then you finally took this decision. It’s killing you both, but you know it will come, because of this little matter. “Let’s end this,” you said. “I’ll never forget you,” this person said. “I still love you though,” you both said.
But you still think that he/she is perfect for you, even though he/she’s not yours anymore. Then you began your journey of searching for “the one” that people used to promise you. You didn’t find it, because you already know who’s perfect for you.
And still, you’re searching, for someone like him/her.
“… I wish nothing but the best for you.”
